More recently scientists have started to identify several beneficial characteristics in the eggshell membrane. That's the thin layer between the egg white and the shell, which provides the same function in the egg, as the amniotic membrane surrounding the fetus does in humans. Our fore fathers used to put eggshell membrane from a boiled egg on wounds or burns, which would hasten the healing process.
